Scarce 1963 album from the very highly rated jazz singer and here she is supported by the Kinsey quintet who featured Pete King, Les Condon, Gordon Beck, Bill Le Sage and others.

Xtra was a subsidiary of the Transatlantic label and pressings were in tiny numbers.

Pioneering fusion album from 1967 and the follow up to the ground-breaking Indo Jazz Suite and Shake Keane is on top form. Joe Harriott was a genius, 10 years ahead of his time and it's a tragedy that he wasn't recognised as such in his lifetime. Players include Shake Keane, Alan Ganley, Keshav Sathe.

Wonderful jazz/Indian cross-over album from 1966 featuring ragas and progressive jazz. Players include Keshav Sathe, Rick Laird, Alan Ganley. This spawned a lot of dire East-West fusion albums but this is the real deal.

Great progressive jazz from one of the most important British jazz musicians. This was issued on the tiny Mosaic label in 1975 and is very scarce.

The players include Harry Beckett, Derek Wadsworth, Roger Dean and the album has 3 long compositions.

Ronnie Scott became famous as a club owner but at one time he was at the cutting edge of British jazz as this album proves.

The line-up is Scott, Jimmy Deuchar, Derek Humble, Stan Tracey, Kenny Napper, Phil Seamen. Difficult to beat!

Great 1971 album containing 4 long tracks. Phil's band includes British jazz legend Gordon Beck on piano and tracks composed by Beck and another British legend, Victor Feldman.

London born prodigy who played alongside most of the British jazz legends and then moved Stateside to play with Miles Davis, Cannonball Adderley and even Steely Dan. This 10" LP issued in the 50's displays his multi-instrumental talents and is incredibly rare.

Band leader Johnson issued this brilliant attempt at fusing classical and modern jazz in 1970 and he was smart enough to use the pick of British jazz musicians. The album features Joe Harriott (his last session), Tony Coe, Tubby Hayes, Kenny Wheeler, Stan Tracey alongside the London Philharmonic.

Years ahead of its' time and sparkling.

This, according to the various guides, only exists as a European issue but here is a genuine UK pressing from 1969 issued as part of the "Jazz Masters" series.

Great album from the John Coltrane of the violin.

The Flamingo club was the most important in the UK for the development of British jazz and British R n B, all the greats played there at some time and this rare 1961 album features plenty of them including Don Rendell, Tommy Whittle, Bill Le Sage, Tubby Hayes, Ronnie Ross, Eddie Thompson and Ronnie Scott .

Roy Budd wrote the music for Soldier Blue but didn't actually play on the soundtrack. Here he puts matters straight by playing his own version of the score along with some other soundtrack material. Roy was something of a neglected talent for years but is now considered to be an important British jazzman and his records attract considerable interest. This is one of his rarest.

Rarely seen 1964 album which blends modern British jazz with a cello quartet and the result is just terrific. The line-up is Bill Le Sage, Johnny Scott, Bob Burns, Ronnie Ross, Spike Heatley, Tony Carr and the 4 cellists.

Insanely rare library album issued in 1968 on the KPM label.

This doesn't appear in any price guides but you can bet it's the same line-up that produced the collectable John Meyer and Joe Harriott albums of the same period. The tracks are Indo Jazz Interpolation No's 1 to 4 and they are described as "a fusion between Indian scales and rhythm patterns and modern jazz concepts". No musicians are credited but John Mayer is named as the composer.

There is a persistent rumour that only 500 copies of this album were pressed and, in that case, this must be the rarest Tubby Hayes album. Issued in 1968, Tubby is backed by Mike Pyne, Ron Mathewson and Tony Levin and it really is top quality British jazz. This copy has some marks but it plays great.

Mike Westbrook has had a long career as a British jazzer and he's never less than interesting. This scarce 1972 album of progressive jazz features Westbrook alongside Chris Spedding, Phil Minton, Roy Babington and others and was a serious attempt to break into the lucrative prog/jazz market. It failed of course!

Music by Mike Westbrook and lyrics by William Blake makes for a fabulous jazz outing - experimental and rewarding. The musicians include Phil Minton, Henry Lowther, Kate Westbrook and Alan Wakeman.

John Keating is a vastly under-rated composer/ band leader who excelled at everything from writing TV themes & soundtracks to experimental jazz. This album is a sort of tribute to the Big Band era but is more than that. The musicians involved include Tubby Hayes, Bert Courtly, Jimmie Deuchar, Duncan Lamont, Keith Christie, Reg Guest, Barry Morgan and Jim Sullivan. Jaw dropping!

Does what it says on the tin!

Bob Leaper was a mentor to many of the great British jazz musicians in the sixties and they often found a place in his big band line-ups. This 1964 album is full of great big-band arrangements of the early hits played by an obviously first division collection of jazzers.

Decca - SKL 5099

This is a quirky one in the career of this jazz legend. She's backed by jazzers Dave MacRae, Rick laird, Gordon Edwards and others  but the material is very interesting and includes Dylan's Country Pie, Beach Boys "Vegetables" and amazingly, King Crimson's "Cat Food"

It was issued in 1971 and has a great King Kong cover.

Polydor - 2384 020

Condition - NEX/EX

This 1969 album is a real oddity amongst the huge output of trad-jazz supremo Mr Barber. It's a foray into more mainstream jazz and is quite funky in parts. There's even a cover of Charles Mingus' "Better Get Hit In Your Soul"

The real attraction of this album is that it includes cameos from Paul McCartney, Brian Auger, Viv Prince, Vic Briggs and a production credit for Reg King. Obviously, Chris was trying to make contact with the young Turks about town at  the time and he does so with some aplomb.
