Esquerita - Wild Cat Shakeout
Ember - SPE 6603
Condition - VG/EX
Little Richard should be paying this guy royalties for the hair-cut and the singing style. A true original and rock n roll of the finest order.
£40.00
Various - Brum Beat
Dial - DLP 1
Condition - VG/EX
Extremely rare collection of Birmingham (U.K.) bands issued on this tiny label in 1964. The groups are mostly unknown/obscure - Senators, Sinners, Grasshoppers. Renegades etc - but the roots of bands such as The Move, Uglys, Steve Gibbons, Idle Race will be amongst these bands. A real period piece and a treat for archivists.
£60.00
Rip Chords - Hey Little Cobra
CBS - BPG 62281 - mono
Condition - NEX/EX (tape on back cover seams)
Surf /Hot Rod music was huge in the USA but in the UK all this stuff was a mystery in 1964 when this album was released. We got the Beach Boys albums but very little else which makes this record a real rarity as a UK issue. It's great too with covers of Little Deuce Coupe, Shut Down and the ace title track.
£80.00
Graham Bonney - Super Girl
Columbia - SX 6052 - mono
Condition - VG/EX
The title track is a classic piece of sixties pop and the rest of this album is pretty good too in a swinging "Dave Berry" kind of style. Graham Bonney, who was a member of the great U.K. freakbeat band The Riot Squad, should not be confused with Graham Bonnet who handled the vocals with Rainbow for a while.
£40.00
Pupils - A Tribute To the Rolling Stones
Wing - WL 1150
Condition - VG/VG
Freakbeat legends The Eyes recorded this album of Stones cover in 1966 for a budget label. It probably took a day, they probably didn't take it seriously but....they couldn't avoid investing it with a power and venom which the Stones themselves would have envied.
You like freakbeat? You need this.
£60.00
Bob Dylan - The Hurricane Benefit
Singers Original - SODD 007
Condition vg/ex
Double album of the 1975 concert in support of boxer Ruben "Hurricane"Carter who was imprisoned for a murder he didn't commit.
The material is a mix of old stuff and his current "Desire" album.
It wasn't a waste of time either as Carter was eventually released.
£60.00
Dion - Runaround Sue
Laurie LLP 2009 - U.S
Condition - NEX/EX
Irresistable rock n roll from one of the early stars. This rare American album includes Runaround Sue, The Wanderer, Kansas City etc all delivered with a drive that will bring a smile to your face.
£80.00
Wynder K Frog - Out Of the Frying Pan
United Artists - UAS 6695 - U.S
Condition EX/EX
Would you belive that it's not his real name?!
Wynder is actually ex-Fairy Mick Weaver who played in a number of those Island label/Trafficy sort of bands in the 60's and 70's. He was one of the best hammond players on the UK scene and this album of groovy instrumentals confirms his talent. Tracks include Jumping Jack Flash, Tequila, Hi Heel Sneakers and his own excellent Harpsichord Shuffle.
£50.00
Mary Hopkin - Those Were the Days
Apple - SW 3395 - U.S
Condition EX/EX
An interesting career. Pop singer dicovered by TV show Opportunity Knocks and Paul McCartney but also a very credible Welsh folkie with rare records sung in Welsh on obscure Welsh labels. And she was married to Bowie/Bolan producer Tony Visconti.
This is a difficult album to find and has the title track, Temma Harbour, Knock Knock Who's There and a version of Lennon/McCartney's "Goodbye" amongst others.
£60.00
Roy Orbison - Memphis
London - SHU 8445
Condition - NEX/EX
A huge star in the 60's, but in the 70's Roy drifted onto the cabaret circuit and his record sales dipped alarmingly. Of course, in the 80's he became a Travelin Wilbury and a huge star all over again. This 1972 album is one of his rarest and it's pretty good too.
£50.00
Brian Auger & Trinity - Definitely What
Atco - SD 33-273 - U.S
Condition - NEX/EX
A pioneer of British R n B, Auger has made some great albums in a long career and is only now beginning to get full recognition. This 1969 album of jazzy R n B has Auger working with Dave Ambrose & Clive Thacker on self composed material and covers of A Day In the Life & Red Beans
£50.00
Them - Them Again
Parrot - PA 61008 - U.S.
Condition - VG/EX
U.S. issue of the second album by this legendary Irish band who were led by Van Morrison. It's a great selection of powerful R n B including some Morrison originals and is very rare indeed. This copy has a promo sticker on the front cover.
£75.00
Cream - Disraeli Gears
Reaction 593 003 - mono
Condition - NEX/EX
Cream's best and most influential album is a great mix of psychedelia and blues. Clapton made his reputation with John Mayall but he made a real leap forward here although his future progressions became something of a cul de sac.
The iconic Martin Sharpe cover is a classic period piece and this mono version has a far punchier mix than the stereo equivalent.
No rock collection is complete without this!
£75.00
Gale Storm - Sentimental Me
London - HAD 2104 - mono
Condition - NEX/EX
Original mono issue on the plum coloured London label. This is the rare 1958 album from the American radio/TV star who turned to singing. Gale is backed by an orchestra directed by Billy Vaughan and, not surprisingly, the arrangements are terrific.
£75.00
Emile Ford - Emile
Piccadilly - NPL 38001 - mono
Condition - NEX/EX
How often do you see LPs on Piccadilly?
This is Mr Ford's 1962 album and he definitely fancies himself as the British Harry Belafonte although he does tackle Fever and Lawdy Miss Claudy. He deserves a prize for having the cojones to wear that shirt!
£40.00
Shadows - Surfing With the Shadows
Atlantic - 8089 - U.S. - mono
Condition - NEX/EX
The Shadows were huge in the UK and Europe in the 60's but they struggled to make any impression in the States where there were any number of guitar bands - the Ventures in particular. As a result all their U.S. albums are stupidly rare including this 1963 collection which includes hits such as Dance On, Man Of Mystery and F.B.I.
The title is misleading - there wasn't much surfing in the UK in the sixties!!
£200.00
Crickets - Something Old Something New...
Liberty - LBY 1120 - mono
Condition - EX/EX
Even without Buddy Holly the Crickets had much to offer as this rare 1962 outing proves. Sonny Curtis and Jerry Allison were fine composers and players and they went on to have very succesful careers.
£50.00
Spotnicks - Out a Space
Oriole - PS 40036 (mono)
Condition - EX/EX
Rare 1962 outing for Sweden's answer to the Shadows/Ventures. They played up the space themes with the Flash Gordon suits and backdrops but they had a genuine Joe Meek-alike in the ranks in Bo Winberg.
Oriole records of this vintage are usually trashed but this is a lovely copy with a brilliant cheesy cover.
£50.00
Byrds - Turn Turn Turn
CBS - BPG 62652 - mono
Condition - NEX/EX
Very folky, very country despite the Brian Jones haircuts and Granny Takes a Trip threads. There are signs of what was to come and the performances are great but the shadows of the Beatles and Dylan loom large.Gene Clark was the only real writer in the band at this time and he was outstanding then and improved as his career went on and nose-dived.
On the cover, David Crosby looks like a chubby trainee monk....
This is the rare mono issue with the textured orange label and the flip-back cover
